Being A Fenty Girl in a Material World

Hello My Lovely Sage Beauties!

Let’s talk about how Robin Rihanna Fenty disrupted the beauty industry, and why I’m here for it eight days a week.

A few weeks ago I was at home, getting ready in the morning as I usually do, and I had a full-on Rihanna experience. I was very excited to do my makeup because I have been loving my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear foundation in the Shade 420. While applying my makeup, I was wearing my Fenty x Puma top and listening to some Drake, featuring Ms Fenty. So yes, you could say I’m invested.  I have always been a fan of RiRi’s music as well as her haute couture, unapologetic, trendsetting personal style. When I first heard rumblings that she was developing a makeup line I knew it was going to be cool, but I wasn’t prepared for the immense impact it would have on the entire universe.  She is an icon that women of all backgrounds love. You may think that this post is way overdue considering Fenty Beauty launched in Fall 2017, but now that I have had time to use her products for a couple months and enjoy the new additions to the brand, such as the Mattemoiselle Lipsticks,  I am eager to share my observations with my readers. If you follow me on Instagram, then you will see that my most recent looks have all used my Fenty 420.

40 shades of You and Me.

Whenever I am asked about Fenty Beauty, I love to talk about what it means to feel that a brand founder truly understands her clients, and that she disrupted beauty in a way that it needed to be disrupted. Rihanna launched a new brand with FORTY shades of foundation. She intentionally created a brand that was inclusive, accessible, fun, and delivers on all that it promises. There have been many times in my life when I have gone to a makeup counter to find a complexion product, either a liquid foundation, concealer, or even a simple powder only to be told “I’m sorry we don’t have your shade.” Excuse me? To say that to any woman is quite frankly, making her invisible, especially because this is something many women, especially women of color,  have experienced.   Trust and believe, yes it happens.  Fenty Beauty has created a new precedent for brands to come, and let me take a moment give a shout out to all the existing brands that have always been inclusive, and are only adding to the glorious options for complexion perfection. Makeup belongs to every woman.

Here’s what you need to know about the actual foundation!!

  • The Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation is a liquid foundation, providing medium to full coverage. It is buildable coverage, and I would describe the finish as demi-matte (natural but not too matte).
  • You can apply with a foundation brush or a Beauty Blender! I usually prefer to use my Beauty Blender.
  • I always set my foundation with a translucent loose powder. My current ride or die is the Too Face Born This Way Ethereal Setting Powder. It will set your makeup without looking flattening the finish of the Pro Filt’r Foundation.

I would love to know if you have tried this foundation, how you apply it, what shade works for you, or if you have to mix shades together (which it totally okay).  Take a selfie, tag me, have a mimosas. Easy.

Until Next Time
